Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey, Laura! So happy to hear this!
And, the downside of this product is definitely the oils (palm and peanut), both aren’t ideal choices. So, yes, it is safe, but wish they would have used different oils. I think normal peanut butter is a good choice, one with just peanuts or peanuts and sea salt! For extra protein, you could add your own chia or hemp seeds!!
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey! I agree the biggest concern would be the lettuce. I haven’t heard of Chick-fil-a ever having a food recall, but that doesn’t mean the risk still isn’t there. Wondering if you could ask them to not put the lettuce on? I’m not sure if these are prepared in real-time or ahead of time, I guess you could ask this, too!
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey! The biggest risk is in the pre-made salads like the individual ones and the chicken salads, potato salads, etc (the ones you are mentioning). Bagged greens are at higher risk, also, which includes salad kits and pre-cut greens, etc. So, ideally, you would buy a bunch of kale, wash it, and chop it yourself. I think purchasing the bagged greens and re-washing is a good way to go if you don’t have the time to invest in chopping all the greens. We can’t really place a number on the “risk of contamination”, unfortunately, so it’s ultimately your decision. Personally, I would still buy Trader Joe’s triple-washed products to save time in the kitchen (increase my likelihood of actually eating greens, right?) since to me the risk is still very low of actually getting listeriosis. Hope that helps!
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey! I think the Quest protein powder is a fine choice, also approved by Consumer Lab’s review. The blender bombs are cool, I do see some of the ingredients you may want to be cautious about. It is advertised as “Raw honey” but the ingredients just state “honey” so I’d be intrigued to actually learn what type of honey they use… since it is lower on the ingredients list it is a small portion of what is contained in the product. So, overall, I think the risk of using these is very small.
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey! Definitely personal preference. They have so many flavors now but I don’t think any have unsafe ingredients if you are unsure you can post the link here to a specific flavor and I can check it out!

Sorry, the formatting got weird on that response – my computer was having some struggles and it wasn’t posting for like 2 days! @binge.nutritionist was the IG account I suggested!
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantNo problem! ( :
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey! Yes, it is pasteurized, yay!
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey! Just a reminder that I can’t provide individualized guidance here, but I can compare it to the guidelines I’ve outlined in the prenatal vitamin note. On the choline, yes, you could potentially take a separate supplement.
Pros: third-party testing (yay!), iron no calcium (could be a pro or a con), vitamin K2, zinc, iodine, selenium, active B vitamin forms,
Cons: yep, no choline, iron no calcium, very limited magnesium, limited vitamin D, no vitamin A, I’m not a big fan of food/herb blends in supplements bc some of these ingredients like the “leafs” we have no data for pregnancy
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantYes!!
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey! You’re right, the Garden of Life does have a prebiotic component as well, so honestly, they are pretty equivalent! In general, when looking at probiotics I like to see at least 30 billion CFU’s and list out each strain included (amounts are great too like Needed shows). Needed’s has just about 30 billion and the reason why I don’t disregard it because it doesn’t meet that mark is that they have the targeted strains such as lactobacillus rhamonous, bifidus strains, and lactobacillus reuteri. It’s nice the garden of life is one capsule versus two, but again, this is going to be up to the individual to determine what is best for you!
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey!
So, swapping every other day on the prenatals is fine, if this works for you. ( :
I don’t think you would need to add the balance product on top of a prenatal, you don’t need that much folate. I’ve been reviewing their website and I can’t find anywhere that they use third-party testing for their supplements… definitely a downside!! I also searched consumer lab and while they haven’t reviewed Alani, I did find this alarming article: https://www.consumerlab.com/recalls/14329/hormonal-balance-supplement-tied-to-liver-failure/ (a physician is basically claiming the balance supplement caused liver failure in a 23-year-old girl)

Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey! I think RX bars are an okay choice. Most bars are about 1.5 servings of carbs (around 25 g of carbs) which may be okay for blood sugars for a snack. In congruence with low added sugar, you also want to find one that has at least 10 g of protein. Autumn’s Gold bars only have 11 g of carbs (total) but only 5 g of protein, so I’d pair this with something like a hard-boiled egg. To really determine what works well for you, it’s best to test your blood sugars at home 1-2 hours after eating this snack. Ohi bars are another good one, 17 g of carbs (total) and 10 g of protein. Mamabars are a bit higher in carbs (closer to 2 servings for a total so not subtracting fiber) but may still work with your blood sugars, and they also have 10 grams of protein.

Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey! While protein needs are individualized, no, I don’t think you would be overdoing it by getting up to 100 grams per day. ( :
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantYay! I would! Let us know how it turns out!!
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey! Some yes, some I’d stay away from. Check out the protein powder note, then also search here in the forums things like “shakes” “protein powder” and “shakeology” – there have been some good past discussions on this topic with more details on certain products! You can also post a link here if you have a certain product in mind!
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey! Yes! If you check out the note on soy, it’s not ideal, but definitely safe. ( :
