Hi! I had an iron question myself and thought this may be a good spot to piggyback. I’m only 6 weeks though. My prenatal I was taking didn’t have iron (it’s a gummy) and my OB said he wasn’t concerned because my iron is good. Which I’m not sure how b/c I’m a vegetarian and have never been on an iron supplement in my life! My regular doctor suggested I take an additional iron supplement to be safe so I switched to Garden of Life Raw Prentals that had 27mg of iron. I had crazy constipation and didn’t feel well on it, so I switched back to the gummy form and added a liquid iron with 18mg.
Would love your input on two things. First, if my levels are okay is it okay that I’m only taking 18mg a day? I track my nutrients and from food I prob get anywhere from 10-20 additional mg a day. Both doctors don’t seem concerned since my levels are good, but I always read how high of levels others are taking and it concerns me that I’m not doing enough.
My other question is I’m noticing when I take the iron I’m so full. Is it okay to take it at night with dinner, so it doesn’t disturb my meals throughout the day? Keeping in mind not having it with calcium. If I take it in the morning, I’m never hungry at lunch time and if I take it mid day, I feel too full for dinner. I’m also eating a lot more protein than usual so I’m sure that contributing to it as well.
