Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey, Jacki! Ugh, I know heartburn is the worst! Here are some tips: https://new.theprenatalnutritionlibrary.com/heartburn/
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHi, Yanessa, we are going to add this to the topic suggestion list! I haven’t seen any research on this as it specifically relates to pregnancy but my team and I will definitely dig into it. I don’t see it as being unsafe for pregnancy, but I don’t know about the specific benefits according to the literature! Thanks for your question/suggestion!! ( :
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHi Ashley! Yes, definitely a good swap for those with GDM, the protein helps balance the carbs, therefore, balancing blood sugar. There’s a previous thread here on bean pastas, too!
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey, Jessica! I pretty lived on kraft singles as a kid LOL it is very processed cheese so safe in the means of pasteurization!! ( ;
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey, Kate! Here are some heartburn tips: https://new.theprenatalnutritionlibrary.com/heartburn/ – typically I recommend avoiding tums as much as you can because they do interfere with your ability to absorb some nutrients by decreasing the acid in your stomach (this is how they decrease heartburn). Try natural remedies first then use tums as a last resort.
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey, Shirlynn! Klaire labs is a good brand, I can’t provide individualized guidance here but I can compare this prenatal to the guidelines I’ve listed in the prenatal vitamin note. ( :
Pros: choline, active form of folate, the active form of B12 and plenty of it, some of the active form of vitamin A, iron versus calcium, does contain magnesium, vitamin K2, selenium, zinc, 2000 IUs vitamin D
Cons: not your full needs of iodine, iron versus calcium (pro or a con depending on needs), lower levels of some nutrients, but overall not bad
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey! Looks good to me! ( :
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHi! Yes! My husband lovesss a good Einsteins bagel (; and, yes, definitely pregnancy safe.
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey! I’d have to see the ingredients to be sure, but if it doesn’t contain any of those herbs I listed under avoid then it is likely fine. You can post the link here to it, a lot of brands have sleepy time teas. ( :
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey! Some doctors to follow are @nataliecrawfordmd (more medical) and @drjolenebrighten (more holistic); not a doctor but @fertilityfriday (she has a good book, The Fifth Vital Sign, I would recommend!); not sure of your certain circumstance but @the.hormone.dietitian is a PCOS specialist
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantIt happens! Can you get it toasted/heated? If so, I think it is a-okay!
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey! If you are a non-fish or limited fish eater, I would still recommend a DHA supplement as baby’s brain is still developing a lot in the first year! ( :
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey, Kristen! One of my writers is researching this topic this week actually so we will be adding a note on it in March. She is digging into any research on it and will submit this all to me on Friday so I can provide a better answer then, but I will say this is an algae so more or less like a vegetable (very nutritious) and small amounts are used in smoothies so it likely isn’t anything to be concerned about.
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey, Chelsea! I wouldn’t be concerned. It is a small amount in the smoothies. Did you check out the maca note here?
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHi!! I think sparkling water is a great swap for a soda craving. We’ve had some other discussions on Olipop here, the main downside to these is they include random herbs in some of their flavors which are in super small amounts, but if you can find an option without herbs you may just want to go with that option.
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantYes, for sure! There really aren’t any foods off limits while breastfeeding. ( :
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey! No worries, this is a great place to post this suggestion! And, I can definitely work on a convenience store section. It’s great to be as realistic as possible with yourself so love this reflection.
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHi Stephanie,
Yes, thanks for posting here so everyone can benefit! The links are very helpful to me so totally good to post them all. ( :
The Natural Calm Magnesium is popular in the states, too, it is fine to take during pregnancy but generally, you don’t want to exceed 350 mg of magnesium per day (via supplements).
The collagen chews aren’t bad, of course, they do contain sugar so you just want to be aware of that. There is nothing that would be unsafe in them.
For DHA/omega-3’s, be sure to check out the omega-3 supplements note here.
Platinum naturals prenatal; pros: contains choline, the active form of B12, good amount of iodine; cons: no magnesium, limited vitamin D, folic acid not folate, limited iron, and no calcium, no K2 (overall, really doesn’t stack up well)
Innate Baby & Me: this one is available in the states and is a better option than the one above although still not totally well-rounded, it has choline, K2, folate, active B12, zinc, selenium; cons: no magnesium, limited vitamin D, no calcium because it has iron, no active vitamin A
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipant( :
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey! Yes, these seeds look yummy and safe to include! Good find!
As far as the MegaFood prenatal, remember, I am only providing a review based on the guidelines outlined in the prenatal vitamin note, I cannot recommend something catered to your needs specifically. ( :
Pros: NSF certified (third party testing), choline (yay!), vitamin K2, folate, methylcobalamin, zinc, selenum, no calcium but iron instead
Cons: no magnesium, no calcium but iron instead, no active vitamin A only beta-carotene, limited amounts of several nutrients especially a downfall with vitamin D, and potentially iodine -
