Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantI would try a bean-based pasta like Banza (https://www.eatbanza.com/), outside of this brand, you can find many different varieties in most stores! The reason I recommend this over whole wheat is because of the protein content you will get which will ultimately help control your blood sugars!
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantI’m so sorry nausea is terrible ) : some fluids are better than nothing, with that being said, the sugar content is likely making your blood sugars out of whack which may aid in increasing nausea as well; is there any other beverage lower in sugar that you can try? Maybe ginger tea? Or a low-sugar Gatorade type?
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantYeah, I’m not sure why it would have that much, too much folate has been linked to certain conditions which mainly occurs with too much folic acid (the synthetic form), but even so, most women definitely don’t need as much as this double dose.
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey! The risk is definitely less since you personally are in control of the entire growing, washing, and preparing process from start to finish.
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipant(( :
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey! I don’t see any issues with this – salt is super necessary for pregnancy and limiting it is generally not recommended. So, if this helps, I think keep doing it, but of course, run it by your provider always. ( :
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey! Yes, there shouldn’t be any harmful ingredients in there!
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantYes! I recommend finding one without nitrites or MSG, also be cognizant of added sugar!
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey! I am not a big fan of powdered or supplemental greens especially during pregnancy since we don’t really have any data on these types of products. For example, herbs like parsley are safe to cook with but we don’t know if this changes when the dose is higher in a supplement. We also don’t have data on alfalfa, wheatgrass, oat grass, etc. Important to note, they are treated like dietary supplements that are not well-regulated plus they are expensive. In my opinion, it is better to focus on eating your vegetables and taking your prenatal vitamin!
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey! Yes, mangos are safe!
The temperature of beef is what matters the most. It should reach 145 F. If it’s a reputable place that you’ve been to somewhat often, I don’t think it’s a big deal if you feel comfortable.
Also, you can search the forum in the browser version (and we are adding this to the app version ASAP). I don’t mind answering questions twice but you may find an answer faster by using the search if I’ve already addressed a topic! ( :
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey! You definitely don’t need both ( :
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey! Yes, unfortunately. : ( but yes, there are many companies using BPA free linings LaCroix does as well.
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey! Nothing harmful, if this is something you can keep down then I say go for it. The only bummer is the sucralose but the amount is super minimal.
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey! Yes, the chicken or beef are both great options!
Ah, bummer on Mama bars! I also like RX bars, Lara bars, OHi bars, Autumn’s Gold, or making your own energy bites! The other issue with most of these bars is the limited protein which makes them not very filling, unfortunately.
Here is the energy bite recipe from my book:
1 cup old fashioned rolled oats
½ cup ground flaxseed or flaxseed meal
½ cup peanut butter
½ cup dark chocolate chips
2 tablespoons chia seeds
¼ cup pure maple syrup
Optional: ⅓ cup unsweetened, coconut flakes
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey! Unfortunately, there is no clear yes or no with MOST herbs during pregnancy since we simply don’t have the data. Generally speaking, a cup of herbal tea per day is likely okay because 1, you are not consuming the herb directly, 2, you don’t steep the tea very long (1-3 minutes) which means you are consuming an extremely little amount of any of the herbs. That being said, licorice root is one I generally recommend avoiding, is there a tea you can find without this one?
We are adding a list of herbal teas soon, as well!
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey! We are actually going to add a full note on ACV! The issue is the lack of research, I’m actually not sure if there is any on ACV DURING pregnancy. I would first look at why you are doing this and ask yourself if it is still necessary. In things like salad dressings and cooking with ACV, this is not an issue during pregnancy, but when you just drink it straight, it’s a little different. My recommendation if you do use it is to keep it to 1 tbsp and dilute it some with water or add it to tea or something! In this case, I do think unpasteurized is fine for the benefits it provides.
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantJocelyn, one of my favorite calcium combinations is the basic bone nutrients supplement that Thorne offers: https://www.thorne.com/products/dp/basic-bone-nutrients (again, I cannot tell you if this specifically meets your needs… ( 🙂
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey! On the number of capsules- this is an individualized question so I cannot provide guidance there. ( :
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantThere is a higher risk of contamination with any pre-made or pre-packaged food, however, the benefits probably outweigh the risk here, i.e. if buying pre-made eggs is going to increase the likelihood you eat them then you are in turn going to get more choline, protein, folate, and all the other nutrients eggs provide. I hope that helps!
Ryann Kipping, MPH, RDN, LDNParticipantHey, Kathleen! Just be sure to look at expiration dates and eat it within the week after opening and you will be fine!
